When you feel Life isn’t full and how to re-wire our thoughts…

There are so many times that the voice inside our heads or the people in our lives speak a different message that the one we read in the Bible. We hear from the world what size that we wear or what to drive. We hear from friends how we should parent or what we need to be accomplishing by our age or stage. Those words may not always be uplifting.

I can remember hearing a teacher tell me that I could not play a certain sport. I heard that message a few times and my brain listened. I believed that I could not do any sport. I was an adult when I had to re-learn from a friend that I could exercise. I spent many years believing what I heard others say about me-friends, teachers, co-workers, strangers.

As I grew in my relationship with Christ, I began to hear a different voice. I heard a voice calling me beloved, chosen, beautiful, delightful, that I could to do all things, and more. So how does one live a full life if we believe the lies we hear vs. the truth we may or may not know.

First of all, we have to find the TRUTH of God’s word. Study who God says you are for yourself. Secondly, I find that listening to Christian music helps me stay focused on that Truth. I listen in the car, on my phone, Spotify, Pandora, a cd , cassettes and any kind of Jesus music I could find.

My grandfather started me early on Amy Grant cassettes each Christmas. I could sing of the releases that she and Sandi Patty had. I now have playlist for Spotify & Pandora that keep me focused on the truth. I listen as I get dressed, as I work on the computer, as I do dishes, drive, etc. Music is my muse. I’m changed by words and I can easily get lost in true worship by singing these words of truth to my Savior.

Thirdly, find a mentor or a friend who can urge you in the Word. I have two friends who speak truth over me weekly. They are women of faith who will stop and pray when my brain is telling me a different message than the word. It always refocuses me.

What voices do you let speak to you? I challenge you to listen to His voice…dig into Scripture, write verses on cards to carry in your pocket or on your mirror as a reminder, make a playlist of Christian songs that remind you whose you are.  Listen to the one who loves you most.

What is on my play list…
