5 Simple Truths to Remember When You Feel Broken

There are so many circumstances which we can face today in which we as humans feel less like ourselves. When life no longer adds up to the expectations that we had in place. So many times we face an untimely job loss, death of a loved one, diagnosis of an illness where the outcome isn’t hopeful and those things all make us feel broken. God’s Word offers you hope in times where you feel overwhelmed by life’s circumstances. Today here are 5 simple truths to remember when you feel broken.

Simple Truth 1 to Remember When You Feel Broken

Truth one to remember when you feel broken is found in Psalm 147. We find the author encouraging the audience to praise God for He is good. He builds up Jerusalem and gathers the outcast of Israel. The promise that is written for the broken here in chapter 147 is verse 3. (English Standard Version)

He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.

It is promised that God binds up our wounds and heals our broken hearts. It is a beautiful promise to remember as our hearts split open. Now we understand why the author said in verse one that God was good and worthy of praise.

Our Second Truth to Remember

The second simple truth worthy of remembering when we feel broken is that God is tender to me in my weakness. Paul in 2 Corinthians 12 when discussing the thorn in his flesh is reminding the people of Corinth that he would rather boast in his weakness and God’s power. God makes us strong when we are weak in our own power and find sufficiency in Him alone. The truth to focus on here is in 2 Corinthians 12:9-11. (English Standard Version)

9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

God is Strong When I Am Not.

The third truth for you to remember when you feel broken in this world is that God is strong when I am not. In Psalm 18, we read the promise from the psalmist that says,

32 It is God who arms me with strength
and keeps my way secure. (New International Version)

God is the source of our strength. When we feel we are broken and weak, we cannot go another inch then God can. We just cling to this verse. He keeps our way secure, and is there waiting to be our strength. He is ready for us to call out. What a great promise!

He Will Make All Things New

One truth for the broken to remember that offers so much hope is that is making all things new. He is coming again to restore and He is making all things new! WOW! Are you jumping up and down inside yet? This promise God gives is real. It isn’t some archaic writing for the people 2000 plus years ago. It is for us today! He is making all things new-our old broken bodies, our old broken homes, our old broken relationships, our old broken hearts, our old broken ….you name it-God, the King of the Universe is making it NEW! He is in the Restoration business. The Master Fixer Upper!

The Lord sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness.Psalm 41:3 (New International Version)

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” Revelation 21:5 (New International Version)

Simple Truth 5 to Remember When Broken

The last truth to remember when broken is one reminds us it is not about what is tangible in this world. God is always at work on our behalf. He is wanting us to call out to Him to be in relationship with Him. He wants us to know that He is fighting for us and not against us. When we spend time in His Word, time talking with Him in prayer, and time in community with others sorting through His truths then we are growing closer to the person that He has created us to be. This does not promise us a life of ease and comfort or free from pain, but it does promise us that He is with us and never will forsake us. The 5 simple truths for us to remember when broken are found in Hebrews 11:1-3.

Here we have seen 5 simple truths to remember when you feel broken. There are many more truths in God’s Word that offer us hope in this world and in the world of chronic illness. Finding Joy in the Journey begins when we look to God and His Word of Truth as our guide for hope.
