Four Guaranteed Ways to Add Fun to Life

Are you stuck in a pain cycle? Do you need to add fun to life? A person living in chronic pain often focuses on surviving the day to find rest and relief. We should not let it stop us from enjoying life. Here are four guaranteed ways to add fun to life.

It is Biblical to live a fun life. This doesn’t mean a life the way we want without reason, but we can see the Hebrew for joyful is “sameah”. It means cheerful, happy, or to be glad. In Proverbs 17:22 we read

A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

The last thing that a person with chronic pain needs is a crushed spirit or dry bones so we need to take the good medicine of living with a joyful heart. What better way to bring in joy, but with fun. Check out this fun adventure my guys took my Mother on during a time when her health was not at its best. It was unplanned, but a treasured memory they will talk about for years.

Have a great plan for your day of fun. Where do you find brings you joy? A day with your family, a good friend, adventure exploring the outdoors, shopping, a theme park, fishing…the list can be endless. The worst thing is when we fail to plan a day of fun for ourselves with our loved ones. Spontenaity is good, but can be hard on those with chronic pain.

Laughter is good for your soul.

A season of life for us when the children were younger was curling up together on the couch and watching a favorite show. We love comedy that makes us laugh. Laughing has keeps you focused on the lighthearted side of life. When you are laughing then you are less likely to be so focused on those chronic aches. Sometimes forgetting what we are overwhelmed by in the pain department is good for our hearts, minds and relationships.

Lastly, how to have fun for those with chronic pain is to enjoy the moment. Do not anticipate what is to come or how things could go wrong, but enjoy who you are with and where you are. Being in the moment with your people makes the experience much more enjoyable. How do you like to add fun in life?
