We face obstacles each day that make us ask ourselves- “Why does life have to be so hard?” Chronic illness, aging parents, new stages in life or the death of a loved one are some of the things that we encounter in our daily lives. Mourning the Pain is a place to reflect on ways that you can find joy in the painful places of life.
When I was a young girl and life seemed to overwhelm me, I found solace on my mothers kitchen counter. We had a long, narrow, galley style kitchen. The counters were filled with containers and appliances, but there would always be a spot for me to sit.
Mama was always up for advice and encouragement. You know no matter how tired from teaching she always had enough left for us at the end of the day. I lost my mother six years ago to Cancer. Although I had been married for years, I still called her daily for my “kitchen counter” session. I miss those conversations. I even forget and pick up my phone to “tell Mama” sometimes.
It was a way of life for me.
Those kitchen counter days are gone for me and Mama, but I am learning to find solace in my relationship with Jesus Christ. Mama always pointed me to Him, but I am leaning in to hear His words and truth. Mourning the Pain is a space for you to come alongside and seek to learn as well. We will find joy in the painful places of life.
Life may seem hard for us at times, but God is the one who offers the solace of comfort from His Word to our hearts. Will you journey with me?
